July 8, 2021. Concert "Dream Beyond" (one of the soloists, others being Phil Lam and Yang Enhua, with True Colors Orchestra]. Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre

A member of the True Colors Symphony, the largest inclusive orchestra in Hong Kong, Daniel Lei presented "A Whole New World" from the film Aladdin. The arrangement was written for three soloists. Musicians in the orchestra come from diverse backgrounds; some are members of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the leading flagship orchestra in Asia, while some of the others have disabilities. This is the second annual fundraising concert that Daniel Lei has been a part of, showcasing his passion for orchestral concerts and his commitment to building a more inclusive community.

The orchestra starts with the famous introduction of this Disney film theme song, led by Yang Enhua, a sight-impaired erhu (Chinese two-stringed fiddle) soloist, who plays a very lyrical main theme, followed by Daniel Lei and then Phil Lam.

Lam is well-known for identifying himself as local singer-songwriter. His single Peaks and Troughs (Chinese: 高山低谷) has reached 28 million views on Youtube to date. Perhaps his lesser-known side is his skill as a seasoned saxophonist, having started playing the instrument at a very young age, which the general public may not have discovered.

In terms of musicality, Daniel Lei utilises three bamboo flutes – first an A, then a D, and an F – in this version arranged for a "fusion" orchestra. This is to handle the frequent modulation (changes of keys) and the wide range of the music. Bamboo flutes, long used in folk ensemble in the Sinophone world, are non-transposing instruments with limited ranges and modes. However, these challenges are easily overcome by professional conservatory-trained bamboo flautists. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to witness them playing alongside a piano, ensemble, or orchestra.

Prior to this big concert at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the three soloists and some orchestra members presented another documented version at Hong Kong Disney. See below,
